What is motion design?
Audiovisual storytelling

Motion design, also known as motion graphic design or motion graphics, refers to graphic 2D elements that are brought to life through animation. Motion design works with symbols, characters, typography, shapes, and lines. Originally static graphics are animated and thus vividly brought to life.

Motion graphic films are audiovisual. This means that image and sound belong together: music, sound effects, and high-quality voice-overs support the visual layer and create a powerful and memorable overall experience.

Why a 2D animation film?

Motion design can be used in many different ways: as a short clip for social media, to visually support abstract topics, or when filming should be avoided or there is simply nothing to film.

Motion design is also an excellent alternative to 3D animation. The effort involved is significantly lower, as all elements only need to be created and animated in 2D.

However, its communicative impact is in no way inferior to a three-dimensional implementation.

Inspiration for YOUR project

Is your product or service difficult to explain and rather abstract? Are films about the benefits of software or the relationships in a complex process boring?

No! Not with motion design.

Especially the minimalist, stylized form of presentation opens up excellent possibilities here. Key aspects can be emphasized without getting lost in details. Information and message take priority over detailed realism.

Motion design perfect for your target audience

In motion design, (almost) anything is possible. The films can be explanatory and factual or bold, colorful, and unconventional.

As a motion design agency, we find exactly the right tone for your target audience. Through colors, wording, and typography, your branding can be perfectly communicated. Motion design films convince potential customers of your products or services and remain memorable.

Added value of motion design:
Illustration, graphics & branding

Are you looking for synergy effects and want to get the most out of your budget? Then motion design is a great solution.

If you produce a motion design film, all illustrations and graphics can also be used for other purposes afterwards. You can reuse the motifs and visual styles for your print materials or your website. This ensures a consistent corporate design and therefore strong brand recognition.

It also works the other way around: if you already use icons and graphics in print or on your website, they can easily be adapted for motion design. If numbers or other elements change, no problem – all graphics and texts can be easily adjusted and updated. Compared to live-action filming, the effort remains manageable.

Our motion design services

Whether you already have a story in mind or we develop a script together, your motion design agency supports you with experts in storytelling, copywriting, graphics, imagery, animation, and sound. It doesn’t always have to be a full film. Of course, we also produce logo animations or create illustrations and graphics. If you wish, even interactive ones.

FAQ Motion Design

What is motion design?

Motion design (also known as motion graphics) refers to the animation of graphics, icons, shapes,
text, or illustrations to present content in a visually appealing and understandable way.

What is the difference between motion design and traditional explainer videos?

Motion design uses graphic 2D animations, while traditional explainer videos often rely on real scenes
or more complex storytelling formats.

What is the difference between 2D and 3D animation?

2D appears more graphic and is often faster and more cost-efficient. 3D offers more realistic
representations but is more complex and time-consuming.

What is motion design used for?

Motion design is especially useful when content is complex, abstract, or needs explanation.
It also enables a consistent visual branding across different formats
(videos, web, social media, presentations) with strong recognition value.

How does motion design differ from traditional 3D animation or live-action footage?

Motion design usually works in 2D with illustrations or graphic elements.
The effort is often significantly lower than in complex 3D animation or live-action production.
This makes motion design particularly attractive when simplicity, clarity, and budget are important.

Can motion design videos be updated later?

Yes — graphics, text, or sequences can usually be updated easily depending on the project scope.

How does the process work – from idea to finished film?

The process typically starts with a briefing to understand your goals, target audience, and message.
This is followed by concept & storyboard, then design and animation including graphics,
illustration, sound design, and possibly voice-over. After feedback rounds, we finalize the project
and deliver the finished files.

How much does a motion design video cost?

The price depends on the scope. Smaller animations are more affordable, while full films are more complex.
Is it a short animation, a logo clip, or a complex film?
We recommend: let’s briefly discuss your goal and budget so we can create a tailored offer for you.
